The Quickcast™ technology, used by CPS Technologies, enables a wide variety of hybrid module designs and sizes.  We have made modules up to 17” x 32”.  The encapsulation can be particulate or fiber reinforced, depending on strength and stiffness requirements; and the modules can be cast to complex sizes and shapes with much better dimensional control than monolithic ceramics.

CPS has recently installed and commissioned new equipment which enables larger panels.  CPS is using this capability to make modules for the  Army Research Laboratory as part of a Cooperative Agreement to further develop manufacturing technologies for large modules of hybrid metal matrix composite armor.   The Agreement is a four-year Agreement, funded by the US Department of Defense Manufacturing Technology Program.

The new casting unit has already been used to make modules up to 17 x 32 inches .  The armor modules are designed through a collaborative effort using CPS’ existing, patented HybridTech Armor® metal matrix composite armor technology and technologies developed at the Army Research Laboratory.  CPS HybridTech Armor® modules are comprised of multiple materials completely enveloped within and mechanically and chemically bonded to lightweight and stiff aluminum metal matrix composites.   CPS believes that HybridTech Armor® tiles and modules offer a lightweight, multi-hit capable and cost competitive alternative to conventional steel, aluminum and ceramic-based armor systems.
